Naotsugu - seated tiger netsuke
Circa 1840
A wood netsuke of a seated grooming tiger, its body twisted round as it bites an irritation on its tail. The left forepaw is slightly raised and rests lightly on the rear paw, balancing the feline’s body, while the facial expression betrays annoyance. The striped coat markings are defined in sumi-e and the eyes are double-inlaid in light and dark horn.
