Unsigned – Komai-style metal hako netsuke

An unusual Komai-style metal hako netsuke, the outside decorated in gilt with peonies, camellia and chrysanthemum. A metal pin releases the hinged lid to reveal the gilt interior which may once have been a receptacle for pills. A metal loop on the back serves as the himotoshi.
