A powerful netsuke of a reclining tiger
Nagoya, circa 1780
A powerful netsuke of a reclining tiger, its head twisted upwards to look over its back and its mouth open to issue a warning to any unwelcome intruder. Its ears lie flat against its neck and its long tail snakes up over its shoulders. The paws all gather neatly under its body to create a bold but compact piece with the carver’s characteristic spirited flow. The eyes with black stain.
