An umoregi netsuke of a spider resting on a piece of driftwood, the polished upper side signed in faint ukibori: Seioyodo Tomiharu, with a poem.

The poem is from a well-known waka verse:

Michinoku no shinobu mojizuri / tare yue ni / midaremu to omou / ware nara naku ni (Like a patterned cloth / tangle-tyed in Shinobu / in the farthest north / it must be because of you / that my heart is in turmoil).
