A boldly carved model of a group of fish encircled by a crayfish
Tanba, circa 1810
A boldly carved model of a group of fish encircled by a crayfish, one side with a plump carp, the other with a member of the tuna family and smaller fish. This configuration of a group of fish by Tanba carvers exists in a few different examples, but the current example is a particularly successful realisation of the subject.
