Naito Toyomasa (1773-1856)
Tanba, circa 1820
Gama Sennin sits gazing up in delight at his enormous companion toad. The creature’s long right leg stretches down to the sennin’s hip while the other is braced against his shoulder as he climbs up his back, one foreleg supported in his master’s upturned hand.
The toad’s face looms sternly, the large eyes inlaid in dark horn, while the Sennin’s eyes are inlaid in pale horn.
