A lacquer hako netsuke with a design of an octopus on a sparse bed of bamboo leaves. The cephalopod’s huge head extends over the side of the cover while the tentacles twist and curl in various directions. Reddish-brown lacquer ground. Decoration in silver ishimenuri with details in gold lacquer and the eyes inlaid in aogai (abalone shell). The interior is in sparse nashiji with gold lacquer rims.
