Carved from the corona of a stag antler, a wasp rests on the ragged-edged cap of a mushroom, the dentellated rim formed by the natural material. On the underside the gills are carved in fine detail and lightly stained in a goldish-brown, the short stem curled to form the himotoshi, terminating in the volva root sac.
