wood pipecase of senryuzutsu form

A wood pipecase of senryuzutsu form carved in black persimmon wood with a design of Shoki casting his stern gaze down at an unseen irritant – no doubt a mischievous oni. Shoki’s eyes, with pierced pupils, are inlaid in ivory and his headdress embellished with a coral ‘jewel’, his belt is inlaid in pewter. He holds a halberd in his left hand, its handle with two decorative ivory inlays. Two fine longitudinal cracks to the top of the pipe holder are secured with butterfly-shaped inlays, one in ivory and one in mother-of-pearl.
