A stag antler senryuzutsu in the form of a skeleton balanced on a rocky point, its head resting on its arms, which are folded beneath its chin. The back shows the emaciated torso, the bony sagging ribs still apparently covered by withered skin and the shoulder blades drawn closely together. The cranium is traced with the lines of the skull’s joints and the wide mouth displays its rotting teeth. Stag antler is a perfect medium for depicting decay, the natural porosity of the cancellum adding to the sense of decomposition and impermanence.
