Ikkan - seated horse netsuke

Nagoya, circa 1840

A seated horse, its head turned back sharply over its left shoulder. The mane falls down in tresses over the creature’s neck, the tail sweeps round to the front. And the hairwork is finely incised. The body has the typical smallish head, domed spine and musculature of Ikkan’s work. The limbs, tucked under the body, form the himotoshi with a rear leg.
