An adult Kintoki dressed in courtier’s clothes, subdues the demon of Ōeyama, the one eyed-creature thrashing his limbs in furious resistance as he is pinned to the ground by his adversary. The solid ivory manju is deeply carved in shishiaibori, the details enhanced with sumi-e and red ink. The reverse shows a sake cup stand and an upturned cup, its contents spilling on the floor.

Better known as the prodigiously strong boy raised by Yama Uba, Kintoki was taken into service by the great hero Minamoto no Yoshitomo and together they subdued the demon of Shutend-oji. Here he is identified by the large character on his robes, which reads Kin.
