circa 1850

An ivory festival dancer inclines his body to one side as his arms swing in the opposite direction, the hands concealed within the wide sleeves of his haori jacket. He wears a short apron with a design of hanging bamboo leaves. He appears to be performing the yakko-odori, or ‘Happy Dance’ which is illustrated move-by-move in Hokusai’s Manga.
