Toyokazu - ryusa style manju
Tanba, circa 1840
A wood ryusa style manju depicting a ho-o bird (phoenix), its open-beaked head jutting forwards, the plumage finely detailed. The wings are spread, the rich tail feathers fan over both sides of the manju. The eye is inlaid in pale horn with pierced pupil.
