Shibayama School, circa 1890
A pair of resplendent oiran parade under a flowering cherry tree, accompanied by a kamuro (child assistant), while a male attendant shades them with a large parasol. To the reverse side a samurai in travelling clothes and his two attendants pause by a fence to admire the elegant procession. The scene is created with a profusion of inlays in aogai, ivory and coral set against a kinji ground with details in gold and silver hiramakie with sprinklings of mura nashiji and kirikane. The top and base are encased in scallop-edged chased silver strewn with shakudo and gilt seashells. Four cases, interior nashiji with fundame rims.
