Komin

A muso-zutsu form ivory pipecase decorated with an image of Sojobo peering round a rocky outcrop, carved in high relief. The leader of the yamabushi tengu inhabiting Mount Kurama to the north-west of Kyoto, he appears in his typical garb of long robes, a tokin tied to his forehead while his thick beard, carved in very fine detail, swirls around his head as if buffeted by a gust of celestial breeze. The folds of his clothing seem to mimic the concentric ridges of the rock behind which he hides.
